Neighbour Roots (NR) is an activist advocacy brand tackling Melbourne’s homelessness crisis by directly addressing the inner-suburbs’ lack of social housing. By dismantling barriers such as Not in My Backyard (NIMBY) stigma and council planning barriers, NR aims to bring social housing to areas with space and facilities. Through data-driven street assets and community murals, NR humanises urban density and builds empathy between affluent property owners and future residents.
Driven by NR’s core values of Community, Collaboration, Compassion and Advocacy, the tone balances uncompromising, data-backed urgency with warm, approachable human storytelling, ensuring a disruption of local complacency while inviting meaningful neighbourhood connection.
